Meet my teammates – Tom and Jan Hibbard- Body by Vi Champions April 2011

When is the last time you set a goal that set you squarely outside of your comfort zone?  We’re all faced with daily challenges, and it’s safe to bet that these challenges come, whether you want them to or not.

If you are tired of dieting, and/or working out and not seeing the results that you’ve worked so hard for, it’s time to take a hard look at your goals, starting where you are now, and where you want to be.

Studies show that many people never start a program because the end result looks too hard, or might take too long. By setting reasonable goals over a 90 day period, the end result is more achievable, and adjustments can be made along the way.

Start by taking a look at your Ultimate Transformation Challenge goal -and based on that goal, break it down into 90 day short term goals. For example, if your goal is to get in the best shape and conditioning to run in a 5k competition, and that competition is 6 months away – you have two 90 day goals to meet. Keeping it realistic simply means that if you haven’t run in 5 years, setting a goal to complete the 5K would start with establishing daily and weekly goals for distance. Your first week, you would set a goal to run 1 mile a day, the following week 2 miles a day, moving all the way up to your 90 day goal.

Breaking down your goals to a daily goal, a weekly goal and a monthly goal will help you to stay on course to achieve your overall 90 day goal.

Logging your daily progress is crucial as well. Reviewing how you have done on a weekly basis helps you to stay on top of how you are performing relative to your goal, leaving you the leverage to  “step it up” if you are falling short, without falling behind. Doing this will hold you accountable to YOU, and is a boost to keep you motivated as you meet your goals.

Today, we have several gastric bypass patients on our products, and they are having great success. One of our Ambassadors (Mr. Marty Crowe) was a bypass patient. His weight had plateaud at 500 lbs. until he found ViSalus. So the lap band is similar to gastric bypass, only less invasive of a surgery.

The shakes are great for gastric bypass patients (we even have sold it into a few bypass clinics) because it is highly absorbable protein with digestive enzymes, but also because it is low sodium and low fat, and tastes great. Bypass patients have a harder time getting enough nutrients because the size of the stomach is so compromised. The shakes are easy on their smaller stomach. For those that want additional support, they may benefit from the Vi-Pak. Now, because they have a much smaller stomach some patients may have a harder time digesting the tablets. This is because the ratio of stomach to tablet is much greater (more stomach touching the tablet vs. a regular size stomach). For them, we recommend that they can try and grind up the tablet in their shake, try a tablet cutter (available at pharmacies) or talk to their doctor about how to include it.

Patients can talk to their doctor, but a key issue for patients that have this type of surgery is getting enough protein each day. Many doctors tell them to get up to 60 or more grams of protein per day. The shake mixed in a little yogurt (greek) will help get enough protein into their now smaller stomach, and it’s an easily digested protein.

 Body by Vi Shakes – Why Sucralose?

The following post is to answer questions regarding the use of Soy in the Body by Vi Shakes – and whether using Soy is safe.

This response comes directly from Audrey Sommerfeld, SVP of Marketing for ViSalus Sciences.

There is a lot of misinformation and confusion about soy in the marketplace today. In countries where consumption of soy is high (like Japan) the populations are healthier and have fewer health issues than in America today. So we know that there is misinformation, and facts being taken out of context.

Of the concerns over soy, there are a few common ones. First, is referring to raw soybeans, that can contain a form of phytic acid that can block certain minerals absorption. However, that is based on massive consumption quantities, and of the raw soybean and only occurs in those animals that lack the digestive enzyme phytase. It is only an issue for people who consume those foods to get minerals in their diet, and in massive quantities. The issue is in developing countries, and may have a genetic basis as well because they are lacking the digestive enzyme (which can be supplemented and therefore alleviate the concern). It is not an issue for our products because of how we process the ingredients.

The second common concern with soy are due to some of the components of soy, particularly the isoflavones genistein and dadzein which can affect and inhibit thyroid peroxidase which is necessary for the production of T3 and T4. Thus there is some evidence that it could lead to thryoid enlargement (Goiter) . Our soy has been processed to remove the isoflavones, so this is not an issue.

A third common concern about soy is the effect it may have on estrogen levels in the body. This is again due to the isoflavones, which we have had removed. So this is a non-worry. We should note that many menopausal women do supplement with isoflavones, as it has been shown to help them experience fewer side effects of menopause.

Lastly, our Soy is not genetically modified (it is non-GMO). Many people worry about genetically modified soy, and if any of the ingredients got altered in the breeding process. We use the most natural form we can get, that has not been genetically modified.

Why use soy? It is a complete protein, it is easily digested, and with adequate soy in the diet it can help reduce c-reactive protein (an signal of inflammation and heart disease) in the body, along with cholesterol.
